Fritz Lang's epic science fiction masterpiece. Metropolis tells the story of two worlds, the upper class who have easy wonderful lives and live in the upper levels of the towering city, and the workers, who are destined to a life of toil and monotony. Maria, a woman from the workers, comes to the upper city briefly, and Freder, the son of a leader of the city, travels down to the undercity to see her. He sees the injustice of what the workers' lives are like and tries to change things. Much of the original film has been lost for many years. Kino did a good restoration a few years ago, but even then, about a half an hour of the film was still lost, and was likely to remain so forever. However, a nearly complete copy of Metropolis was found in South America, and now the 'Complete' Metropolis is finally available.
