Woman in the Moon (German: Frau im Mond)
An amazing science fiction film by Fritz Lang about the first trip to the moon. A scientist has a theory about gold being on the moon, and gets a mission backed to travel to our heavenly neighbor in search of it. Spies and espionage threaten to block the launch, but they get away safely. This film tried to be as scientifically accurate as it could for the time, and the special effects are simply astounding. There are plenty of films in the 1950s that don't have special effects nearly as good as this 1929 classic.
