About the publication

Looking back. Reading forward.

Old Futures is a new independent informational publication about reading classic science fiction and the history of imagined futures. We focus on the choices inside speculative worlds: the lives they make visible, the assumptions they carry, and the questions they leave open. We are not a continuation or archive of any earlier publication using this name or domain.

What you will find here

Our articles offer original critical frameworks rather than reproducing copyrighted fiction. We distinguish textual observations from interpretation and encourage readers to check their editions. Historical context can explain a work without excusing demeaning assumptions. No reading list here is a complete or compulsory canon.

Each guide is designed to be useful on its own. Start with a question that interests you, try a small exercise, and adapt it to the book and time you have. The articles are evergreen commentary, not current news, event listings, professional services, or claims of product testing.

Independent, from the beginning

Independently operated new publication. Not affiliated with any previous website or operator, or with any similarly named business. This site does not claim an inherited readership, former staff, business history, or endorsement from authors or publishers.
